Lets say a kid is looking at the sky and sees a cloud. It is the largest fluffiest cloud the kid has ever seen. But the kid does not care for the smooth swoops or the way the light strikes it just right, all the kid sees is the shape. It is a dinosaur. It has a long neck and tail. It has a small gentle head and a thick torso. It walks on all four of it's powerful legs and looks like it is nibbling on a nearby tree. The kid gets exited so they run home and for the rest of the week all the kid can think about is that cloud. The kid goes to the library and reads book after book about dinosaurs. All the kid can talk about is dinosaurs and how amazing they are. The kid goes to the same hill as before hoping to see another cloud that was just as fascinating. The kid had brought the nicest paper and the newest pencils. Not a single cloud was in the sky. The kid frowns and wonders why nothing is in the sky to inspire a new drawing. However their are birds. The kid sees them, chases them and draws them with the nice paper and new pencils. Now all the kid can talk about is birds and how they fly and how pretty they are. The next week is firefighters, after that the wind and so on so forth.
This is an example of inspiration since the kid had a positive reaction to the small event, in this case a cloud, that caused an impact on the kid's life. Inspiration is temporary. The effect of the cloud started to fade away. In this example the inspiration faded quickly, however other types of inspiration might have lasted longer. It all depends on the person.
